FIVE GLEN Innes High school students have gained selection in the North West Cross Country team that will compete at the state championships at Eastern Creek in July. Matthew Campion finished in first place for the second year in a row in the 17s age group while his brother Bradyn Campion finished in second place, closely behind the first placed competitor in the 13s age group.  Mitchell Taylor finished in third position in the 16s age group, Kate Lynn finished in fourth position in the 14 years age group, and Lily Coldham also crossed the finish line in fourth position in the 15 years age group. Racing against the best in the region at the North West Cross Country event in Coolah to gain selection for the North West team was tough for the 18 Glen Innes students who ran. My race was very close,” Kate Lynn said. “The top five competitors in each age group all ran as a group for the whole race leading to a sprint finish in my race, “Lily Coldham said. Bradyn Campion said he is excited to be going to All Schools State cross country in August.  “I am aiming to make it to Nationals, however I know the competition will be very tough,” he said. “I am training every day of the week to prepare for the event.” Matthew Campion finished first at Coolah and put that down to a lot of hard work. “It was a six kilometre run and I did it in exactly 20 mins which I was pleased with,” he said. “I made it to all schools last year and finished third in my age group but I was in a young age group so I was unable to compete at nationals.  “This year I am aiming to top that by making it to nationals and I know the race at Sydney will be a lot more competitive and should be a faster race so I will work on my final two kilometres as this will be where the race is won or lost.”
