A suspected Molotov cocktail has been thrown through the window of a restaurant in central Melbourne, with a man arrested and charged over the attack.

The 39-year-old, from Southbank, is also accused of lighting a small fire in the toilets of a hotel on Whiteman Street just before 12.30am on Wednesday before heading towards adjoining Clarendon Street.
Emergency services were then called to a Southbank Promenade restaurant where the alleged Molotov cocktail was thrown through its window.
The man was arrested a short time later before being charged with reckless conduct endangering persons and two counts of arson.
He is scheduled to face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
