The Windsor RSL Sub-Branch, with the help of Foodbank, are supplying food packages to veterans in the Hawkesbury and surrounding areas during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The concept has been adopted by many of the sub-branches of the Far Western Metropolitan District which stretches from Merrylands to Penrith, Richmond and Epping.
Windsor RSL Sub-Branch Honorary Secretary Leon Walker said Windsor received 120 food packages last week and these would be distributed to veterans and widows over the next few weeks.
"These packages were offloaded by a team of Sub-Branch members supported by members of 22 Squadron RAAF Richmond, 1st Military Police Battalion Holsworthy and Foodbank," Mr Walker said.
"Many older veterans are too proud to ask for help. In addition to delivering care packages, volunteers are reaching out to veterans and widows as they are concerned the extended lockdown and lost connections are impacting on the mental wellbeing of many."
