The operators of the Shell service station at Hay in NSW's Riverina have urged the community not to panic after it closed for a pandemic-related precautionary deep clean.

On Wednesday afternoon, the service station took to Facebook and said they have closed for deep cleaning as a precautionary measure, and will inform people when it is safe to reopen.
"We are asking the people of Hay not to panic," they said.
"Our site is closed only as a precaution as instructed. We are very low risk of exposure due to the processes we have in place as advised by NSW government.
"Our town is a main thoroughfare with many people passing through daily. We are not immune to this disease and our processes are in place to keep the people of Hay as safe as possible."

Hay Shire Council mayor Jenny Dwyer asked the community to keep doing their part to keep everyone safe.
"Just being vigilant and following the precautions and the rules," she said.
Deputy mayor David Townsend also called for people to "do the right thing with QR codes and washing your hands."
