Bilpin International Ground for Creative Initiatives, better known as The BigCi, will host another of its popular open days on February 28.
The free event will run from 11am to 4pm and will feature the works of current artists in residence Luke Foster, Linda Starkey and Marike van Dijk.
BigCi creative director Rae Bolotin will welcome guests from 11.15am, before welcoming Foster to speak about his works.
The NSW-based artist presents a mixture of video documentation from his exhibitions and t-shirts with artworks from the past 20 years printed on them.
He will also show a variety of new figurative drawings reflecting on nature, and then present a slideshow of art from his extensive body of work, including a series of drawing inspired by American writers JD Salinger and Jack Kerouac.
Sydney-based painter Starkey will address visitors from midday.
During her BigCi residency she has concentrated on further developing her Garden of Stones series.
She has a self-imposed rule that she only paints a subject that she has personally experienced and connected with emotionally.
Starkey says she was inspired to paint these unique rock formations while on many walks through the Garden of Stones aresa.
She has used oil paint and imagination to try to convey the wonder and amazement she says she feels each times she sees one of these weathered rock sculptures.
From 1.30pm visitors will be treated to insights from Marike van Dijk, a Dutch saxophonist.
She composes music that cannot be pinned to any particular genre, combining elements of jazz, classical and pop music, with a focus on collaboration.
Back home, she leads her own critically acclaimed international 12-piece chamber jazz emsemble, as well as several cross-disciplinary projects with visual and performing artists.
Her work at the BigCi involves composing for a commission for the Museum of Brisbane and creating work to accompany Ludwig Hirschfeld-Mack's Farben Licht Spiele.
At 2pm visitors will be treated to something truly special, a collaborative performance featuring each of the artists in residence.
This will explore the practice of improvisation and the interaction between two visual artsits and a jazz musician. This work will be supported by a short narrative.
