Have you heard aircraft over your house this morning? The Department of Defence is conducting fast jet aircraft diversion training into RAAF Base Richmond until 4pm today (Wednesday, January 20).
Hawk 127 Lead-In-Fighter aircraft from No. 76 Squadron at RAAF Base Williamtown are conducting the diversion training.
Up to five aircraft will conduct instrument approach, 'touch and go' landings between 9am and 4pm and then depart to the north to return to RAAF Base Williamtown.
Diversion and Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach training is an essential part of pilot training on fast-jet aircraft as it assists pilots to land at different airfields in all weather conditions, says Defence.
Flight timings within the window indicated will be determined throughout the day to best meet training outcomes.
Defence says noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military activity, and Air Force appreciates the ongoing support of the Hawkesbury community during these training activities.
Defence says the timing of this activity is subject to variables including weather and operational availability, and the department requests that local residents do not call RAAF Base Richmond directly for updated timings.
