Windsor Target will be officially closing its doors on January 30, with the department store set to be transformed into a new-concept 'K Hub' and re-opened in February.
Works to convert the premises to K Hub will begin "a few days" after Target shutters its local store, a Kmart spokesperson said.
"As a business we're committed to opening stores in new communities; and we can't wait to welcome the community of Windsor to our brand-new concept K Hub store on Thursday 18 February," the spokesperson told the Gazette.
They warned K Hub would look "a little different" to ordinary Kmart stores, such as those Hawkesbury locals have been travelling to in the past, including Penrith and Stanhope Gardens.
"We're giving the store a 'light touch' make over for now, so that we're not inconveniencing the community with a long store closure," the spokesperson said.
"We want our customers to have easy access to the items they need ... which is why we're focusing on speed to market. But we have big plans to evolve the look and feel of this store over time."
The first iteration of the store will consist of the most popular Kmart products across kids, home and clothing, brought to life "in a new way" to form "a collection inspired for a smaller format store, with bigger convenience in mind", the spokesperson said.
There will be a focus on online shopping, with customers able to 'click and collect' from the full Kmart range at the Windsor store, or shop online and have items delivered to the home.
Even better, locals will still have the option to shop online at Target, and collect their items from the Windsor K Hub. Orders made online at the Catch website will also be able to be picked-up at K Hub.
"We'll be using our hub store as a collection point for online Target orders too; giving customers easy access to two of our key Kmart Group brands," said the spokesperson.
According to the spokesperson, all previous Target team members were offered the opportunity to "join our growing Kmart family, with in-depth training and support".
"You'll be welcomed into store with some familiar faces," they said.
