Local environmental group is working hard to protect Pughs Lagoon from human impact

Hawkesbury Environment Network (HEN), with the help of Macquarie MP Susan Templeman, was granted $20,000 to protect wetlands at Pughs Lagoon in Richmond from human impacts.

"HEN volunteers work to conserve and restore the natural environment of the local area, and to raise awareness of natural resource management," Ms Templeman said.

"As part of that work, HEN has recently been able to resume its wetlands project at Smith Park, Pughs Lagoon, working with Hawkesbury City Council and local bush regeneration company Ecotune to remove weeds and plant native species.

"I visited the lagoon ... and I must say I was impressed with the huge amount of non-native grass and other weeds they were removing along the water's edge.

"I know the HEN volunteers were very excited to get back to work - all the while following strict Covid-safe conditions - and they have planted tall sedges and melaleuca in the area."

HEN celebrates its 10th anniversary in October, and is planning on having an AGM anniversary event with the theme "Self-Sufficiency in Isolation".
