THE local Governor Macquarie Memorial Pipe Band (GMMPB) will be performing A Celtic Affair at the Castle Hill Pioneer Theatre on Saturday, 7 (8pm) and Sunday, 8 (2pm) March.
The band caters for students and members from five years and up, well into their senior years, and features many Hawkesbury locals.
One of these is Angus Kaczorowski, an eleven-year-old who joined the GMMPB two and a half years ago.
He is a third-generation GMMPB member; his grandfather played the snare drum for the band; his mother learned the bagpipes; and he now plays the snare drum.
In his short time with the band, Angus has played in ANZAC day performances, Christmas parades, at the Liverpool Plains Military Tattoo, and the Sydney Royal Easter Show.
As well as competing with the band, he has competed in solo events and received first place at the Central Coast Scottish Spectacular and the NSW state championship, in which he became the NSW Novice snare Drumming state champion.
This will be the second time he has performed in a Celtic Affair concert and likes seeing audiences sing along and enjoy the tunes he is playing.
A Celtic Affair will celebrate the love and joy for the Celtic heritage, and will feature special guest singer, violinist and guitarist Eileen McCann, along with Highland dancers.
