2019 was a year of mixed blessings for Hawkesbury with funding for key infrastructure projects being delivered whilst dealing with the impact of drought and bushfires which has devastated our community.
Local RFS and emergency services brigades received new trucks and equipment and the investment of $26.3 million for the LAT (large air tanker) has proven to be invaluable. We watch it fly over the Hawkesbury constantly as it travels to and from the fire terrain.
Recovery grants of up to $15,000 for bushfire-effected farmers and local businesses is available, $25 million to facilitate the clean-up of homes and properties damaged and destroyed by fire and a $170 million Drought Infrastructure Package is also on hand to provide drought relief for those in need.
In 2019, I witnessed great community advocacy to save the Lower Portland Ferry from closing and together we ensured that the NSW Government provided $2 million over the next four years, to maintain this integral link in Hawkesbury.
$4.7 million was allocated for the Pitt Town Bypass and $2 million was dedicated for further planning of a new Richmond/North Richmond river crossing with submissions on the proposed routes closing January 17, 2020.
Elsewhere, construction of the Windsor Bridge replacement project is progressing well. The project is on track to be opened to traffic in late 2020.

The announcement of $13 million for a PCYC in South Windsor was well received and this compliments the NSW Government's further commitment to supporting the youth in Hawkesbury through education with exciting new developments in 2020 and beyond.
A new Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Education located in the Western Sydney University Hawkesbury campus will be available for agricultural students from Richmond High School, Hurlstone Agricultural High School and all other schools in NSW. It will also be available for teacher training for TAFE, WSU, industry and overseas students.
Richmond High School will have an agricultural speciality stream commencing in 2021 and then a new academically selective stream along with a new school block and refurbishment of school facilities. This is a great win for agricultural education in Hawkesbury.
Finally, I wish to thank the people of Hawkesbury for all their hard work in making our community the wonderful place it is. Their strength promises a bright future for this community.
