A Corrective Services officer will face 37 additional charges over the alleged sexual abuse of female inmates at a Berkshire Park correctional facility.
A statement issued by NSW Police on October 18 stated the 37 additional charges include eight counts of aggravated sexual assault of a victim under the authority of an offender, 14 counts of aggravated indecent assault, and eight counts of misconduct in public office.
"In October 2018, detectives from the State Crime Command's Corrective Services Investigation Unit commenced an investigation under Strike Force Nautilus, following reports female inmates had been sexually and indecently assaulted on numerous occasions," a police statement said.
"A 63-year-old man was charged by detectives in February 2019.
"Following further investigations, the man was charged with an additional 37 charges at Penrith Local Court [on Friday, October 18]."
Other charges laid include four counts of aggravated inciting of an act of indecency, two counts of intimidation, and introducing contraband to a correctional centre.
"Police will allege in court the man sexually abused a further six female inmates at a correctional facility in Berkshire Park on numerous occasions between 2016 and 2018," police stated.
"The man's employment with Corrective Services NSW has since been suspended."
Investigations are continuing.
