A Riverstone man has been arrested for allegedly failing to comply with a prevention of cruelty to animals court order, and hunting a game animal on public land without a licence.
The 26-year-old man was convicted at Mt Druitt Local Court on September 3 in relation to animal cruelty and illegal hunting offences, and an order was made that prohibits him from owning dogs, residing in a house where dogs are kept, and travelling in a vehicle with dogs used for hunting for a period of five years, according to the NSW Police Rural Crime unit.
He was also fined $5000, issued a 12 month good behaviour bond, a 12 month community corrections order, and is banned from applying for a licence to hunt on public land in NSW for 10 years.
"The man was arrested [on October 10] by the Rural Crime Investigator from the Hawkesbury Police Area Command," police stated. "Police will allege that the man travelled to the Pilliga area of NSW with a number of hunting dogs to hunt feral pigs between September 20 and 22."
"The arrest was as a result of quality information from the public and the combined effort of the NSW DPI Hunting Game Licensing Unit and the Rural Crime Prevention Team across a number of police districts, sharing information and resources under the recently formed Joint Strike Force Venari."
The man was charged with three counts of failing to comply with a court order (possession of animal) and hunting game animal on public land without a licence.
