Days of wild weather has caused brought many trees down on roads, homes and powerlines, sparking fires across the Hawkesbury.
Less than a week into the local bushfire danger period, local Rural Fire Service (RFS) brigades responded to reports of a large grass fire threatening homes on Terrace Road, Freemans Reach, as winds whipped up about 3.30pm on Friday, September 6.
The fire was extinguished and crews stood down about an hour later, however shortly before 4.50pm the same day a tree that had fallen on power lines sparked a bushfire near the junction of Wallace and Brandon Roads in Vineyard.
RFS units from Hawkesbury, The Hills and Cumberland, as well as NSW Fire and Rescue units from Richmond battled the blaze, which damaged cars parked at Vineyard railway station.
The blaze was quickly brought under control and no injuries were reported.
A bushfire also closed Wisemans Ferry Road at Cattai in both directions in the late afternoon on Friday, while property protection measures were being put in place after a large bushfire was reported on Charcoal Road, South Maroota.
RFS units from both Hawkesbury and The Hills worked into Saturday night to strengthen containment lines, and crews were not stood down from that fire until the early hours of Sunday morning.
The fire was listed as under control by Sunday morning, and on Monday had burnt out about 115 hectares of land.
Power outages were reported across the region, and Hawkesbury State Emergency Service (SES) controller Kevin Jones said about 30 local volunteers were assisted by one unit from out of the area as more than 100 calls for assistance were received due to the wild weather.
A caravan had been completely flattened by a tree at Sackville Ski Gardens, but damage was reported right across the region, he said.
"The first calls were received about 4.30pm on Friday, they were mostly trees down and parts of roofs damaged or blown off," Mr Jones said.
"Freemans Reach, Glossodia and Wilberforce seemed to be affected more than anywhere else, although we also had trees down around the Colo Heights and Putty Road areas.
"It was pretty widespread."
Two large trees fell across Terrace Road at Freemans Reach on Friday and power lines were also reported down at the Freemans Reach Road/Gorricks Lane roundabout, according to Freemans Reach Rural Fire Brigade.
The SES did not expect the situation to worsen this week, with severe weather warnings early in the week centred mainly around the coast, however "you never know", Mr Jones said.
