Residents of Kurrajong Village and surrounding areas will have noticed considerable building activity at Kurrajong Nursing Home on Old Bells Line of Road.
Now, the local community and its businesses have the opportunity to pitch in a make a difference for the residents of the home.
Kurrajong Nursing Home president Bob Brierley said the board, which is entirely made up of volunteers, had undertaken a project to upgrade the facility, and local residents and businesses had the opportunity to support the project if they wished.
He said the project will include the addition of eight new en-suite rooms in replacement of some of the older wards and rooms.
"More recent residents may not be aware that the Nursing Home is community owned and was established as a hospital in the 1950s," said Mr Brierley.
"The Nursing Home is run by a volunteer Board with day-to-day management under the control of the Director of Nursing."
Mr Brierley said the scope of the renovations included updating the exterior, improvement of utilities inside the facility, car parking, and moving the main entrance to the rear with level entry.
"The board considers that this upgrade must be undertaken to ensure that we remain competitive and relevant in the industry," Mr Brierley said.
"The facility has been prudently managed over almost sixty years and the renovations will be funded from accumulated reserves. However additional funds will be required to then upgrade existing rooms to an equivalent standard."
There are two donation opportunities available to locals and businesses.
The first is to furnish and equip a room by donating $15,000, which will see the donation acknowledged by a plaque at the room entrance, and the second is to provide a brick in the proposed sponsor memorial wall by donating $1,000, which will see donors acknowledged either near the wall or in the public area.
All donations are tax deductible.
For information about sponsorship, contact Mr Brierley on 4573 2378 or Director of Nursing Carol Allison on 4573 1701.
