Fishers and boaties in NSW are being told to be extra cautious as strong westerly winds are forecast to batter the coastline.
A cold front is expected to move across southern NSW on Thursday morning with strong westerly winds to extend to Sydney, Macquarie, Hunter, Illawarra, Batemans Bay and Eden coasts.
Road and Maritime Services warned boaties to take extra care on the water and be aware of hypothermia.
Choppy conditions are expected on exposed bays as well as dangerously rough conditions offshore and there's a risk of boats dragging or breaking free from moorings, the RMS said.
Rock fishers have also been urged to check weather forecasts, avoid fishing near dangerous surf and to wear lifejackets.
Conditions are expected to ease on Sunday but there may be an increase in ocean swell.
