Community members are invited to a meeting with Hawkesbury City Council and the Hills Shire Council on the ongoing operation of the Lower Portland Ferry service.
Currently both councils operate the ferry at Lower Portland with the cost of operation and maintenance of the ferry shared between the two councils.
A survey of users in May 2018 found that there were approximately 500 individual trips made each week.
The cost of maintaining the service is currently just over $1 million a year and is expected to increase significantly in the coming years, a Hawkesbury Council statement said.
While the cost is shared between the two Councils, the operation of ferry services across NSW is generally a State Government function, the statement reads.
The community meeting will be hosted by both councils, and will provide an opportunity to discuss the ongoing operation of the ferry with community members.
It will take place on Wednesday, February 6, from 7-9pm at The Juniors on Hawkesbury, 251 Greens Road, Lower Portland.
Please RSVP to events@hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au or call Council on 4560 4444 as catering will be provided.
