A vehicle carrying a woman and two small children became trapped in flood water following a heavy downpour at Schofields.
The 61-year-old driver had two boys, aged five and nine, in the vehicle when she attempted to cross a bridge at Grange Avenue about 9.15pm on Wednesday, December 19.
“It’s believed water levels at a height of one metre were impacting on the woman’s vehicle, preventing it from moving,” a statement from police said.
“Officers from Quakers Hill Police Area Command were able to tow the woman’s vehicle from the dangerous area.
“No passengers required medical attention and were all in good spirits after being rescued.
”The 61-year-old woman was issued a traffic infringement notice given the circumstances of her actions.”
Inspector Garry Sims from Hawkesbury Police Area Command said motorists must use caution during and after wet weather.
“You can never truly tell how deep flood waters are, and it’s not worth the risk trying to drive through them,” Inspector Sims said.
“If there is heavy rain ahead, or the roadway is flooded, pull over in a safe place and wait for the flood water to recede or find another way to your destination."
