Goals and ambitions are easily diluted during a busy year, which is what makes New Year’s resolutions so popular.
But have you ever thought about setting some for your home? Ever wanted that new outdoor area, to install better lighting or become more environmentally friendly?
It’s so easy for these goals to fall by the wayside, so now is the time to make a plan so you can ensure they happen.
Make sure to budget for any improvements you’re planning and book in tradies early to ensure you get the jobs done at the times you want.
From updating furnishes, wall colour, or a complete renovation, here are some trends to note for 2019.
Become eco-friendly
Not only will you be saving the environment but being environmentally friendly is very on trend. It’s almost too easy to ensure your home is environmentally friendly this year. Start with appliances in the lounge room, kitchen and laundry – make sure they are energy and water efficient.
Taps, spouts and mixers throughout the home, both inside and out, should be checked for leaks and be rated for low water use. If you don’t want to replace all your tapware simply install flow-restrictor inserts, which are relatively cheap and very effective.
Breathe new life into your favourite living space
It could be your office, reading nook, lounge room or bedroom. Starting 2019 by refreshing a room in your house is sure to kick your year off with a feeling of accomplishment and give you a fresh space to use.
Painting, new furniture and window furnishings are some simply ways to restyle a room without spending a fortune. Pantone has named Living Coral 16-1546 as the 2019 colour of the year. It was selected based on trend analysis and according to Pantone, “emits the desired, familiar, and energising aspects of colour found in nature”.
If painting isn’t your cup of tea, try finding some new furniture for the space. Handmade and recycled items are on-trend, with custom-made furniture to perfect way to style any space but particularly rooms which are an irregular shape.
Whatever updates you decide on this year, just make sure it fits into your lifestyle, budget and taste.
