Hawkesbury Hornets BMX Cycling Club welcomed home riders Jack Lupton and Kale Warner from competing at the USA BMX Grands in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
The pair were competing in their respective classes at the final race of the US season, considered by many to be the largest BMX event in the world.
There were around 746 motos [rounds] held at the Grands in the lead up to the finals.
Jack is club president Trent Lupton’s seven-year-old son, who completed his first year of competition [in the novice class] with an 8th place in the finals of the Grands.
Trent said he was proud of his son.
“To place in a race of this size in his first year is just great,” said Trent.
Jack hopes to continue riding as he gets older, having enjoyed participating in events since April.
Kale, 17, rode in the Elite A Pro Class [an opens class], just one level below the world’s top riders.
He finished in the quarter-finals against riders who were at least four years his senior.
Kale was the 2016 Australian Champion in the open boys class.
“His joining the club was a big morale boost … we only have 60 to 70 members, so to have one of the top riders in the nation is big,” said Trent.
Trent feels that the club has a lot of improving to do, but says it is well on track, specially with the likes of Jack and Kale part of its roster.
