More than a decade of putting his media and salesmanship experience to work in assisting a local equestrian club rise to developing one of the best training facilities in the country has led Hawkesbury Riding Club to award Greg Allardice a lifetime membership award.
Club president Wendy Pike described Allardice, a member of 22 years, as a quiet achiever, working behind the scenes raising funds to ensure the club achieves its development goal each year over the past several years.
The cross country training course is one of the best club facilities in the country with no expense spared to ensure excellent safety standards.
The four dressage arenas are of international federation standard with safe footing and excellent drainage. A covered roof over one of the arenas is now on the club’s wish list and a taskforce committee – including Allardice – is making progress on this.
With the assistance from Sydney Showjumping Club who shares the ground, much improvement has been made to the showjumping arena also.
With the fantastic member volunteer program, which maintains the facilities, the club was awarded 2018 Club of the Year by the sports peak national body, Equestrian Australia.
Allardice, once a young budding pony clubber, still enjoys riding various local horses, some retired racehorses that he takes out trail riding or club competitions.
Last year riding a rescue thoroughbred called Danny, Greg took out reserve champion hack at the club’s end of year member’s gymkhana, which this year will be held on Sunday, December 9.
