Husband and wife Jim and Sally Hatcher can boast being a gold medal winning couple.
The pair recently returned from the Australian Police and Emergency Services Games in Western Australia with the Aquathon (Pairs) 50+ crown.
Sally swam the 500m leg through the canals of Mandurah, before Jim, 72, completed the 5km run along the marina and foreshore.
According to Sally, Jim’s so proud of the win that he’s been carrying his medal around in his pocket.
For Sally, the win was just one of many. She also netted four gold, seven silver and seven bronze medals in her individual events.
The pair attended the games representing Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade.
Sally’s wins were as follows: Gold – 1000m, 500m and 200m indoor rowing, and the 100m butterfly; Silver (all swimming) – 400m freestyle, 100m breaststroke, 50m butterfly, 50m breastroke, 200m individual medley, 100m freestyle, and 2km open water swim; Bronze (all swimming) – 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 4 by 50m freestyle relay, 4 by 100m freestyle relay and 4 by 50m medley relay.
“While over there I competed in the Australian Indoor Rowing Challenge in Fremantle; after winning five gold medals at State a couple of months ago at Iron Cove, Drummoyne,” said Sally.
“I successfully defended my 2000m National title in my age group (60-64 yrs) and also won the 1000m this year.
“I came 3rd in the 500m event. As this event is held at eight different venues around the country, on the same day, our medals will come in the mail at a later date.”
While she was keen to talk about her medal wins, Sally was keen to spread the word about an up-coming fundraiser for her Yarramundi Rural Fire Brigade.
A trivia night will be held on Saturday, November 24, at the station, located on the corner of Mountain Avenue and Springwood Road, Yarramundi.
Entry is $10 per person or $50 for a table of six.
A barbecue-style dinner will be available from 6pm and the trivia competition will start at 7pm.
“Bring your gold coins for the table games, supper games and raffles,” said Sally. “There will also be an auction.”
