There's been a lot of champagne sipped as friends and family celebrated same-sex weddings over the past year.
But one brewer in the national capital thinks the best way to mark the first anniversary of the historic marriage postal survey, which is on Thursday, is to create a celebratory craft beer.
BentSpoke brewer, along with local restaurant Hopscotch, have come up with The Frenzy to feature during the aptly named Yes!Fest in Canberra on Saturday.
"The Frenzy is a raspberry wheat beer - refreshing and tart, with an extra fruity kick delivered by an infusion of strawberries, raspberries and blueberries in the Hopinator," said Tracy Margrain, co-owner and brewer at BentSpoke.
"It challenges traditional definitions of beer and starts conversations. We thought this aligned really well with the heart of the Yes!Fest celebration."
So far 5420 same-sex marriages have been registered across the states and territories since the results of postal plebiscite were released, with the bulk in NSW, Victoria and Queensland.
Co-chair of the Yes campaign, NSW independent MP Alex Greenwich, says the anniversary should be a day of pride.
"There will be a mix of emotions, with many still frustrated the reform took so long and angry about the postal survey process, but the momentum for LGBTIQ equality is now unstoppable and the support for our community has never been greater," he said.
"We know we can trust our fellow Australians to show leadership when our federal parliament fails us, and that should give us great hope for the many challenges ahead."
Anna Brown, director of legal advocacy with the Human Rights Law Centre, said it had been a year "where all Australians have had the same opportunities for love, commitment and to be treated equally".
"It's been a wonderful year of cake and rainbow flags with LGBTI couples finally being able to say 'I do'.
"Marriage equality has taken from no one and given absolute joy to LGBTI Australians, their families and friends."
However, she said there was still much to do as the government considered its response to a review of religious freedom which was commissioned in the wake of the historic marriage law change.
Many people were outraged to learn under current anti-discrimination laws, schools and other services run by religious bodies are legally able to discriminate against LGBTI children, clients and workers, she said.
"We reject this utterly, and remain concerned that conservative religious forces within the Coalition will be extracting their 'price' for marriage equality. There should be no price paid for equality," Ms Brown said.
The Australian Christian Lobby's managing director Martyn Iles said concerns raised during the postal survey had been found to be legitimate.
"It is time for the Morrison government to step up and resolve the unfinished business of same-sex marriage, to protect religious freedoms and the rights of parents which are now threatened, and stamp out radical gender-bending ideology," Mr Iles said.
The voluntary Australian Marriage Law Postal survey received a 79.5 per cent response rate, with 61.6 per cent (just over 7.8 million Australian voters) saying yes and 38.4 per cent no.
After 23 previous attempts by various parties, on November 15 last year Liberal senator Dean Smith introduced - on behalf of eight cross-party co-sponsors - a bill to amend the Marriage Act to redefine marriage as "a union of two people".
The bill passed the House on December 7 and received Royal Assent the following day.
