THE Ebenezer Public School P&C Association has had its wishes heard for increased safety at the school crossing by delegates from Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) and Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet’s office.
However, RMS hasn’t committed to installing a school crossing supervisor at the school as requested.
A meeting was held at the school on Monday, October 29, after an application for a crossing supervisor at the school was rejected was rejected due to low student and traffic numbers.
Attendees at the meeting included the school’s principal, members of the P&C and Crossing Committees, MP Susan Templeman, a representative of Mr Perrottet’s office, representatives from Hawkesbury Council and the NSW Police.
Rochelle Miller, Secretary of the P&C Association, said the meeting culminated in a “circle of communication” being forwarded “from one department to another regarding our children’s safety, which is based on guidelines and dictated roles”.
“It is clear, after those attending witnessed our concerns, that safety precautions should be the number one priority,” she said.
“The immediate implementation of pedestrian lights or a school crossing supervisor is absolutely necessary.
“Our representatives are listening, we need them to answer the communities wishes, be proactive not reactive, place what is needed as soon as possible, before something terrible happens. Every child matters.”
Ms Miller said an RMS spokesperson contacted her via email after the meeting, and said the department is “in the process of installing the missing dragons teeth and new ‘40’ road markings along Sackville Road to further improve visibility of the existing school zone.”
The faded School Zone signage will also be replaced, the email stated.
“There is no mention of pedestrian lights or school crossing supervisor, only to reapply and they will fix the markings,” Ms Miller said.
“However, even if we do apply again, we will not meet the requirements, due to the low enrollment of students.”
Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet said: “I will continue to advocate on behalf of Ebenezer Public School to improve safety for students, parents and teachers entering and exiting the school.”
"RMS have said they will continue to work with Hawkesbury City Council to resolve safety issues at the school and have encouraged the school to make a further application,” he said.
