IN support of breast cancer awareness, caregivers from Hawkesbury Hospital’s Barry Collins ward turned a hot shade of pink for the month of October and raised money for local breast cancer charity Pink Finss.
The initiative was led by staff members Jess Bennett, Alysha Hatchett, Mary and Rachel Laws from Barry Collins ward, with the ladies working tirelessly (often in their own time) during the month to raise the funds, reaching a total of almost $4000.
The foursome sold pink ribbons on the ward, and also hosted a pink stall in the hospital foyer selling an assortment of pink goods including cakes (they baked over 100 cupcakes and 100 biscuits), candles and a BBQ lunch.
Ms Bennett said it was the second year the team has been involved in raising money for breast cancer during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (October).
“Last year we raised an amazing $1000 and this year it looks like we have already tripled that amount raising a total of $3861.58,” Ms Bennett said.
“We wanted to choose a local charity and so decided to donate the money to Pink Finss Charity to support the amazing work they do in the local community”.
Pink Finss events and fundraising coordinator Emma-Jane Garrow was on hand to receive the cheque.
The team at Hawkesbury District Health Service wanted to thank the following local businesses who donated goods: Kurrajong Butchery, Café Cornerstone Windsor, McGraths Hill Florist, Kurmond Deli, Scibberas Fresh Fruit and Vegetables Wilberforce, and Priceline Windsor.
