A single F/A-18 Hornet from RAAF Base Williamtown will conduct instrument training into RAAF Base Richmond this week.
The F/A-18 Hornet will conduct an instrument landing approach as part of pilot familiarisation training about 8.30pm on Wednesday, October 17, a Defence statement said.
“An Instrument Landing System (ILS) approach assists pilots to land at night or in poor weather conditions,” the statement said.
“The ability to land at alternate airfields is an essential part of pilot training on fast-jet aircraft.”
The date and time for this exercise are subject to variables including weather and operational availability, and could change.
“Noise reduction and the environment are vital considerations in the planning and conduct of military activity, and Air Force appreciates the ongoing support of the community during these training activities,” the statement said.
