Oakville’s Melanie Gabbusch has reaped the rewards of dedication to hard work.
The young student was recently named the 2018 TAFE Digital Tourism and Experience Services Student of the Year.
TAFE Digital general manager Megan Aitken said Ms Gabbusch was a dedicated, hard-working student and a great role model.
“Ms Gabbusch initially enrolled in a Diploma of Travel and Tourism with TAFE Digital in 2012 because online learning offered her the flexibility she needed to juggle study and family commitments,” Ms Aitken said.
“After completing the first five units, she put her studies on hold to care for her sister for three years.
“After re-enrolling in the same diploma in 2017, Ms Gabbusch’s determination saw her complete the course in eight months. With only one unit left, she applied for, and was offered a job with the Flight Centre Group.”
Ms Gabbusch said she loved her job and was proud of what she had achieved.
TAFE Digital Travel and Tourism teacher Fluer Taylor said Ms Gabbusch was a great fit for the industry.
“She was highly focused, determined to do well, and actively engaged with her teachers to optimise her learning experience,” she said. “These characteristics ensured she would succeed in this fast paced, competitive industry.”
