THE 2018 Hawkesbury Classic golf tournament, played exclusively by the Hawkesbury’s female golfers, will start at Windsor Golf Club on Tuesday, May.
The three-day tournament for the region’s women golfers was moved earlier in the year to May, after rain washed out two days of it last year, when it was held in June. On Wednesday it will move to Lynwood Country Golf Club and on Thursday to Richmond Golf Club.
Richmond Golf Club’s Judy Benson said at least 250 women would take to the courses at Windsor, Lynwood and Richmond over the three days, with about 100 expected each day.
“We just feel it is great to have a tournament just for the ladies,” she said.
Benson said the classic was an enjoyable time of year for the women at all three clubs, and ones who joined them from interstate.
“I’ve played in every tournament since we started it a number of years ago, and was on the original organising committee,” she said.
“We always have a great time together meeting the women from the others clubs and playing a few rounds of golf.”
Benson said the past few years of weather had not been kind to the tournament.
“We’ve had a few years of rain affected days, so we’re keeping our fingers crossed that won’t be the case this year,” she said.
“We’ve moved it back to May, hoping the weather will be a bit better and at the very least it won’t be so cold.”
The classic has an overall winner, and it will be played in a better ball format over the three days.
The tournament will conclude tomorrow with the final round being played at Richmond Golf Club.
