Penrith City Council has unanimously supported a move to have the Bells Line of Road - Castlereagh Corridor returned to its original 1950s boundaries.
Labor councillor Aaron Duke put forward a motion at the council’s April 30 meeting that it “note that hundreds of homes will be compulsorily acquired along the new Bells Line of Road Castlereagh Connection (BLORCC) Corridor proposed by the State Government”, and it “request that the State Government returns the corridor to the original corridor of 1951”.
The townships of Londonderry, Agnes Banks and Castlereagh fall into the Penrith Local Government Area (LGA).
“Penrith City Council unanimously supported my motion to support residents … whose homes, businesses and livelihoods have been singlehandedly [sic] decimated without any consultation from [Penrith MP and Western Sydney Minister] Stuart Ayres,” Cr Duke posted on social media following the vote.
”We can and will win this.”
Council also resolved to “formally commit to this position in its submission to the State Government” in as part of the motion.
