THE Hawkesbury Inner Wheel club has made a donation to Kurrajong Nursing Home to help with the fitout for seven new ensuited rooms for residents.
The Inner Wheel Club - an offshoot of Rotary - celebrated its International Day recently, and visited the nursing home to present their donation and socialise with residents and staff.
Nursing home activities coordinator Sandy Barratt said the club brought along home-baked afternoon tea.
“Residents enjoyed a singalong with the club members with [club member] Bob Brierley playing the Ukulele,” she said.
“The club presented two music CDs of Ray Hadley's favourites to [the nursing home] for the enjoyment of the residents.
“The club also gave the Auxiliary of the Nursing Home a donation. This will be put towards outfitting the new ensuited rooms at the Nursing Home.”
Ms Barratt said the facilities are being extended with seven new ensuited rooms: “The laundry will be demolished to make space for this and the laundry will be relocated under the main building. The first stage of this will commence this year.”
Maureen Rose, president of Hawkesbury Inner Wheel, said the club had a successful fundraising year in 2017 and made donations to various community organisations including Kurrajong Nursing Home, The Living Room, Hawkesbury Living Cancer Trust, Pink Finss, Colo Meals on Wheels, and Bridges Disability Services Hawkesbury.
She said the club raises money through numerous and regular small-scale charity events including Rotary BBQs, carols by candlelight events, market BBQs, raffles, a Christmas party and a barn dance. Last year they also hosted a ball at Crowne Plaza Hawkesbury Valley with a raffle to win a car.
“We also do the Hawkesbury Show balls with Richmond Rotary, we run the canteen for them at the show and that brings in a sizeable sum. We’re not only fundraising but also giving services back to the community,” said Mrs Rose.
The next Inner Wheel charity event will be a trivia night on March 3 at North Richmond Community Centre for Camp Quality and other local charities. For more details contact Mrs Rose on maureen@rosey.com.au or club secretary Saveria McCann on saveriamc@gmail.com.
