A CHRISTMAS event will be held for the community this Thursday, November 30 in Windsor Mall, with Christmas lights, entertainment, markets and food as Windsor businesses welcome the silly season.
The event is being organised by Windsor Business Group (WBG), and will include an official Christmas lights-lighting ceremony with Mayor Mary Lyons-Buckett flicking the switch at around 8pm - or as soon as it gets dark.
The festivities run from 6pm until 9pm, and will include performances from local dance troupes, as well as dance and percussion performances from the pupils at Windsor Public School.
Organiser of Sydney Blues & Roots Festival Dave Wilkins will be doing a set on stage, as will the members of the Hawkesbury District Concert Band who will be performing Christmas carols.
Ex-mayor Kim Ford and former councillor Jill Reardon will be making appearances as Santa and Mrs Claus, and kids and adults can have their photos taken with the duo.
The twilight market will host all manner of stalls including those selling ceramics, fruit and vegetables, jewellery, handmade Christmas decorations, honey, and embroidery. There will also be a sausage sizzle and face-painting for the kids.
Various shops in the area will stay open later than usual to kick-off their Christmas presents trade.
WBG’s Gae Kelly said businesses in the area had been busy stringing Christmas lights and setting-up their shops for Christmas.
“The whole idea is to bring people to Windsor to stimulate the economy,” she said.
Earlier this month, Hawkesbury Council provided $1000 each to the WBG and three other community groups to invest in Christmas lights.
