The NSW Tennis Awards recognise tennis clubs, organisations and individuals in the New South Wales tennis community.
Podesta has been operating a tennis coaching business in the Windsor area as well as various other venues in Western Sydney since 1989.
He was selected to receive the coaching excellence award for a number of reason, including his support of Tennis Australia’s ANZ Hot Shots Program; cardio tennis for adults; Sporting Schools initiative funded by the NSW Government initiative; delivering coaching programs to refugees through organisations as Community First Step; continual training of his staff through Tennis Australia Coach Development Courses, and his consistent quality service to the community.
Tennis NSW is the largest of the eight state and territory member associations and currently supports 511 clubs, associations and court operators and over 100,000 registered participants.
Podesta said he was most pleased to have received the award, which attracted nominations from tennis coaching schools across the state.
He said his love for fostering the development of players from a young age keeps his love of Tennis alive.
“I love working with children and the Tennis Australia’s ANZ Hot Shots Program has worked really well for us here in Windsor,” Podesta said.
“We can get children as young as three playing the sport, and I really enjoy seeing them engaged in tennis as it’s a sport they can continue to play their whole lives.”
Before running his school from the Windsor Tennis Courts, Podesta ran the Richmond Tennis Club for seven years where he also won the NSW Tennis Development Centre of the year.
The award now places Podesta as a nominee for NSW for the Tennis Australia Newcombe Award in January 2018. He will be up against all the successful winners from all of the other States in Australia where the national champion will be announced.
