LABOR councillor Barry Calvert wants to see public water parks like the one at Doonside’s Nurragingy Reserve constructed in the Hawkesbury.
Cr Calvert said he wanted to see a free and publically accessible place, with small fountains and shallow pools, that parents could take their children to for a quick cool off on a hot day.
“Two weeks ago when it was 40 degrees, I don't know how many people said to me they were going to Penrith or Nurragingy so they could splash around, and I thought where is ours,” he said.
Cr Calvert said he thought North Richmond, Richmond and the South Windsor-Bligh Park areas were the most suitable locations for such parks.
“I've seen them all over the place, many of the coastal towns have them,” he said.
“I see it as something outside of the pool, people can walk to it and kids can splash around in the water.”
Cr Calvert asked Council to look into the cost of constructing such a park.
“I am led to believe they are not that expensive to maintain once they have been set up,” he said.
