RICHMOND Golf Club will not host the Australian PGA Senior Championship this year, despite last year committing to hosting it for a number of years.
Richmond Club group chief executive Kimberley Talbot said the club was disappointed to not host it.
She said the club was hoping to have it back at Richmond in 2017.
“I know the PGA would be disappointed. They tried hard to change our minds and I am determined to work with them and our sponsors, so that we do sponsor it next year,” she said.
Ms Talbot said the $100,000 prize money was the sticking point.
She said the Richmond Club was putting a lot of money into development, while also trying to ensure the aged care arm of the business was stable.
She added that the golf club had been forced to erect a large net on the 18th hole, to stop balls sailing over the fence into a new residential development, which would cost roughly $100,000 to construct.
Ms Talbot said the club hoped to work with Dominic Perrottet, the Member for Hawkesbury, to bring more tourism events to the Hawkesbury.
