The school’s business manager, Paul Cruise, said this year’s Polding Walk was a huge success, and both the students and the school community supported the event enthusiastically - despite the cold weather on the day.
“Our walkathon has been a tradition at Bede Polding College for about 25 years and our students, staff and parents look forward to it each year,” he said.
Bede Polding Day celebrates the deeds of John Bede Polding - the school’s namesake and Sydney’s first catholic archbishop - and raises funds to improve the school’s facilities.
The $55,000 raised this year came from business and community sponsorships organised by the students. The funds will go towards the construction of additional shelter between the school’s Hospitality Room and Hall, as well as several smaller shelters near the entrances to the Hall.
A group of around 40 volunteers made up of parents and friends helped supervise the walkathon, and NSW Police patrolled the streets to ensure students were safe.
After the Polding Walk, students enjoyed a BBQ lunch from a BBQ trailer on-loan from Chisholm Catholic Primary School, as well as carnival rides, and were entertained by Battle of the Bands.
