It can be hard to find an alarm system that isn’t too sensitive for when the dog decides to venture inside and nobody is home.
The team at ADT Security said the most common concern they face is whether an alarm system can be installed in homes with pets.
Advances in motion technology have helped to solve this problem. Pet-friendly sensors are programmed to distinguish animal movements from human movements, based on size and weight.
Engineers and computer-programmers analysed movement patterns of humans and animals then converted this information into sophisticated algorithms that can separate human and animal movements and they incorporated these into sensors.
ADT Security’s pet-friendly sensors are programmed to allow animals weighing less than 20 kilos to move around undetected, except when they come within 1.8 metres of the sensors.
Because of the height restriction, ADT said it was important to consult a security specialist when positioning pet friendly motion sensors. Generally, they should be positioned 1.8 metres away from any potential interference from furry friends. This will help to reduce the incidence of false alarms.
If you have pets at home, talk to a security provider to discuss having a pet friendly alarm system installed.
