Ongoing concerns about the health of horses at a Blaxlands Ridge Road property prompted a rally on Saturday, April 30.
Although an RSPCA inspection of the horses in late April found positive results.
The group say they have been concerned that horses residing at 330 Blaxlands Ridge Road are not being fed properly and are starving.
On March 31, the RSPCA removed four emaciated horses from the property and left written instructions to care for the remaining 17 on the property.
The RSPCA has told the Gazette in a statement that on April 21, a follow up visit to the property was made, and the inspectors noted an improvement in the conditions of the horses.
“On 21 April, 2016, RSPCA NSW inspectors, accompanied by a veterinarian, returned to the property and conducted a thorough inspection of the horses in the company of the owner which lasted approximately an hour,” the RSPCA stated.
“At the conclusion of this inspection, the inspector and veterinarian spoke at the front gate of the property for approximately 20 minutes regarding the condition of the animals and improvements that had been observed.
“RSPCA NSW continues to regularly monitor the condition of the horses and compliance with the written directions.
“As this matter is subject to ongoing investigation, no further information is available at this time.”
The property formerly was the site of the Misty Ride Equestrian Centre, which was owned by Kylie Maher.
Catherine Brown, who runs an equine business in Glossodia, said she was pleased to hear the RSPCA was ensuring the horses were fed, but said she had grave concerns about what could happen when site monitoring ends.
“We only want action,” she said, “to see that these horses needs are being met on a twice daily basis.”
The Gazette has tried to reach the property via phone for comment on a number of occasions but has been unsuccessful.
