A NEW family history group for the Colo Shire will meet for the first time on May 12 at the Hawkesbury Central Library building.
The Colo Shire Family History Group has been formed by the members of the Kurrajong-Comleroy Historical Society Family History Group, however the group covers suburbs specific to the Colo Shire area.
CSFHG treasurer, Joy Shepherd, said the Kurrajong-Comleroy Historical Society Family History Group’s work had expanded, and they wanted to cover a wider area.
“So much early history of such places as Wilberforce, Ebenezer, Freemans Reach, up to Berambing and down to St Albans area is being lost every day. We also wanted some more independence by forming our own Incorporated Body,” she said.
The body’s first annual general meeting will take place from 10am in the Tebbutt Room at the Deerubbin Centre, which is located at 300 George Street, Windsor.
“We intend to vary the meeting places and also have some of the meetings on the weekends to cover those who are interested but still working,” said Ms Shepherd.
A morning tea with scones will be served during the meeting, which will cost $5 for members and $7 for non-members.
The group’s family history transcription agent, Laurie Turtle, will be speaking on the day. He will discuss BDM Records, the difference between old registers and civil registration after 1856, and certificates and finding information.
