It’s the event that chokes up Francis Street each year, as Hawkesbury families flock to one of the best annual fetes in the district.
St Monica’s Primary School in Richmond unleashes its much-anticipated fete this Saturday, August 1.
It will be held in the church and school grounds on the corner of Bourke and Francis streets, Richmond, from 9am-3pm.
St Monica’s fete is also famous for its great rides. This year there’ll be a giant slide, the cup and saucer ride, the rocking tug, a jumping castle, the thrilling storm ride, a huge simulator ride and dodgem cars.
A wonderful range of goods will be on offer at the stalls for hours of happy browsing, including clothes, toys, small furniture, homewares, garden tools, plants and food specially made for the fete, such as jams, sauces and chocolate wheels.
There will also be a sausage sizzle and refreshments.
Book-lovers could be interested in some rare, signed books, some children’s books and other collectables.
A special treat includes a visit by the local firefighters.
The school’s pupils will operate many stalls, helped by parents.
St Monica’s fete has been held for so many years that most school staff say they cannot remember when it got started.
Proceeds from the fete are divided between the school and the parish.
