CONTINUING traffic problems stemming from upgrades on Kurrajong Road and Bells Line of Road at North Richmond, prompted Mayor Kim Ford and state MP Dominic Perrottet to speak out on road safety.
‘‘Drivers need to be patient and everyone needs to take care,’’ Mayor Ford said.
‘‘We all need to drive according to the conditions of the roads.’’
He said speeding and drink-driving remained the two biggest problems.
The mayor said motorists should remember the dangers posed by both, even when travelling on roads without upgrades being done.
‘‘The more road-users take precautions, the safer the trip will be for everyone,’’ Mayor Ford said.
Mr Perrottet said he had talked with the RMS on ways to keep traffic flowing as smoothly as possible on both sides of North Richmond bridge.
‘‘A temporary ‘No-Right-Turn’ into Old Kurrajong Road has been installed until the completion of these road works,’’ he said.
‘‘Police have been patrolling this area to ensure the safety of motorists.’’
He also said ‘‘No Stopping’’ signs were installed so traffic could continue through to the lights at Bosworth Street, Richmond.
‘‘I ask motorists to show patience and road courtesy during this time,’’ Mr Perrottet said.
‘‘I know these changes have caused inconvenience for some. However they have managed to improve the traffic flow along Kurrajong Road for the majority of travellers.
‘‘I hope motorists allow a little more time to negotiate while the road upgrade continues.’’
He also thanked the residents who contacted his office with their accounts of traffic problems, which he passed on to the RMS.
