For Hawkesbury Baseball Club – home is where the heart is.
The club celebrated three premiership triumphs on Saturday as they hosted the Hills Junior Baseball League grand final day.
Hawkesbury welcomed players from under 11s to 17s from all over the Hills District and had all four of their teams – under 11s, 12s, 14s and 17s – represented in deciders.
The under 12s won their Phil Leonard South final 8-7 over Carlingford in a thrilling game that saw Harry Carstairs hit three home runs.
The minor premiers had trailed by three runs late in the game before they mounted two comebacks to snatch victory.
Hawkesbury’s under 17s also claimed a minor-major premiership double with a 9-4 victory over Castle Hill.
The under 14s downed Kellyville 4-2 while the under 11s were unlucky to lose 5-2 to Castle Hill after the game had been locked at 0-0 midway through the contest.
Hawkesbury Baseball Club president Rod Tuckwell said he was proud of the way the players represented the club on the day.
“All the coaches, what they were able to do throughout the year and the feedback we’ve got from our players and all our parents has been very positive,” he said.
“They’ve been saying what a great season and that the kids loved it and our coaches are getting results like that.
“All our teams made their grand finals so the coaches must be doing something right and the kids enjoyed it which is the main thing.”
Tuckwell said all four grand finals involving Hawkesbury could have gone either way.
“All of our games were very close,” he said.
“The 17s were down by one run at one stage and came back and scored six in one innings to put them in front and they were able to hold on to that lead.
“The 14s – that 4-2 score basically represents that whole game. They stayed very close with us just keeping our noses in front.”
