Richmond RAAF Base staff are to exercise their own judgment as to whether they wear their uniforms in public.
Some media reported last week that the Australian Defence Force had issued a warning to personnel not to wear their uniforms in public after an incident last Thursday at Bella Vista involving a middle-aged man in full uniform, which was later withdrawn.
When the Gazette contacted the Department of Defence on Friday morning in regards to the statement that personnel shouldn’t wear their uniform out, it was denied.
Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin told personnel to ‘‘think about where they are going, be aware of their surroundings and exercise commonsense and judgement when considering where and when to wear their uniform in public’’.
‘‘Events this week are a timely reminder to us all to be diligent when it comes to our personal safety,’’ he said.
