A flotilla of floats is expected at the newly established Riding for the Disabled Centre at Richmond this Saturday, September 27 as horse owners are invited to bring their neddies along for a free Horse Health Day.
It’s on from 10am-4pm at the centre on the corner of Vines Drive and Clydesdale Lane, inside the Hawkesbury UWS campus.
The purpose is to educate horse owners on maintaining the health of their equine friends through various methods, offering them a check-up by qualified professionals at the same time.
Dr John Kohnke of Kohnke’s Own will provide a free health inspection, dietary analysis and biomechanics review of the horses, giving talks, demonstrations and prize giveaways at 11am and 3pm.
Ceva Naturevet will educate horse owners on the importance of regular worming and how to best implement a rotational worming program, while horse communication specialist and Liberty horse trainer Suzanne Bellette will host a demonstration at 11.30am, showing how horses can be trained through body language and natural horsemanship.
Aside from that, there’s fun for the whole family with a HORSEplay adventure game.
Attendees can meet the creator of the game, Jacqueline Thompson and have a go at the horse trivia quiz; there are many prizes to be won.
There will also be a car boot sale, with 20 per cent of sales going to the RDA.
RDA will be selling saddles at a second-hand saddlery stall and Horseland Richmond’s saddle fitter, Carlo will demonstrate the new generation of Bates, Wintec, Kieffer and Anky saddles on any horse.
A sausage sizzle, Devonshire tea and more will be available.
All proceeds from the day go towards Richmond RDA’s riding programs.
Riding for the Disabled is not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers that provides people with a disability the opportunity to ride and enjoy all activities connected with horseriding.
The complex movement of the horse helps to improve co-ordination, balance, muscular development and fitness.
There will also be a demonstration by Ms Bellette on how the older RDA horses’ joints are kept in shape.
