He was born just a couple of weeks before the First World War started and he celebrated with an army of family of friends on Saturday, August 2.
Arthur Schofield was born on July 30, 1914 and celebrations earlier this month included five generations of his family, including two sons, six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
Mr Schofield is a long-standing and well respected member of the Windsor Seventh-Day Adventist Church which he has attended since his parents moved to Pitt Town in 1930.
Schofield Road at Pitt Town is named after the family.
Mr Schofield spent a short time away while studying at Cooranbong but returned with his wife Valda in 1940 to pursue his love of farming.
He bought his first home in Windsor, and then in 1955 purchased an orange orchard at North Richmond which he worked with his wife and sons, Denis and Daryl, until he retired at 97.
A major part of his life has been travel. He and Val have visited more than 80 countries.
A foundation member of the Windsor Seventh-Day Adventist Church he attributes his long life to ‘‘Christian standards, following a healthy lifestyle including abstinence from alcohol and following a vegetarian diet and of course marrying Val’’.
