Controversial NSW P-plate engine restriction rules will be scrapped from August 1 in favour of a national system that will make life easier for P-platers and their parents.

The proposed changes would see lower-performance turbocharged cars such as the Ford Falcon EcoBoost, which has a four-cylinder turbocharged engine, become eligible for P-platers. There will be 6500 more options.
‘‘The NSW Government is making it easier for families with a car which may have been previously off limits to young drivers – these reforms mean P-platers no longer need to carry an exemption when driving the family vehicle,’’ Londonderry MP Bart Bassett said.
