SANDSTONE homes have been around "since Adam was a boy" — and little wonder as it is weather-resistant yet easy to cut and carve.
This pre-historic building material had a resurgence in popularity with Sydney's colonial settlers and today people still turn to classic, natural sandstone.
The owners of Stone Homes are so passionate about the building material that two of them live in a sandstone home.
Stone Homes' Dean Overzet said the appeal of stone as a building material was that it was unique and long-lasting.
"It has a different, warm and inviting look, and it resonates with Australians," he said.
Mr Overzet said Stone Homes' designs ranged from a single-bedroom cottage to a six-bedroom manor.
"There are kit and custom designs available, with the custom designs drawn by a professional draughtsman," he said.
Stone Homes supply the lock-up shell for the house with all external doors and windows.
"Customers can choose from three colours: gold, silver and green," Mr Overzet said.
"The Nepean, 141 metres square (excluding verandah) with three bedrooms, 30-degree pitched gable roof and 2.7 metre ceilings is available for $55,000 in stone," he said.
"It is also available for $28,000 with steel cladding in five colours."
Stone Homes offers Australia-wide delivery, and is open seven days.
