THE ultimate International Back to Back Wool Challenge is returning to the Hawkesbury next weekend, but to a new location.
On Sunday, June 1, the shavers will be out and wool supply will be unlimited as shearers hit the yard to do their best in the competition at the Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens, Mount Tomah.
The challenge is to shear a sheep, spin the wool and knit a jumper in less than eight hours, while racing against other teams and the clock.
Other activities on the day will include an apple pie bake-off, shopping amongst craft, foods and local produce stalls, live music for all to enjoy as well as a live auction of the winning Back to Back jumper and winning apple pie.
But it isn’t all about the adults on the day, there will be activities based around the use of wool for all children to get involved with.
Those wanting to enter the apple pie bake off can put their name down for two categories: the classic apple pie, and innovative use of apples.
There will be sections for adults, high school students and primary school students.
This year’s judge is Marie-Libera Zarro, a private chef for a family in Italy, who has come back to Australia and is now sous-chef at Tomah Gardens restaurant at Blue Mountains Botanic Gardens.
Organisers will be raising funds for Cancer Council NSW, for prostate cancer research.
