AFTER a thrashing at the hands of UWSH, Hawkebsury Valley are hoping to snag a win against St Ives in round 12 NSW Suburban Rugby Union action.
A win against St Ives would move Hawkesbury Valley into fifth position of the first grade ladder in division three of the competition.
Both clubs have just three wins for the season and will want to prove they are best of the rest.
While Hawkesbury Valley were beat up last round, St Ives were also the recipients of a hiding, going down 78-7 against Redfield Old Boys.
Hawkesbury Valley coach Matt Rudd said the club had come a long way since losing to St Ives in round one.
"In the first round St Ives showed that they have a very strong forward pack. So we will be looking to play them out wide," he said.
"We have worked hard to get the forwards to move wide of the ruck and concentrate on hitting the ball up in centres rather than around the ruck area. If we can achieve this, we will be half way there."
Rudd said he thought club stalwart Dan Humphreys would be a key player in the match.
"I will be looking for Dan Humphreys to step up this week and make a big impact on the field. If he has a strong game the rest of the forward pack should follow," he said.
Rudd said he was pleased to have a near full strength side back, after the team dearly missed its halfback Cam Worland last week.
He said Dan Warters, who broke his jaw against UWSH, would have surgery this week to repair it.
The first grade match will kick-off at 3.15pm at Hassall Park, with fourth grade starting at 12pm.
