They've been providing meals, clothes washing facilities and hot showers for people in need in the Hawkesbury for 30 years, and now Hawkesbury Community Kitchen needs to find a new home.
Chairperson Phoebe Peterson said the real estate agent of the property they'd been leasing for 13 years on Macquarie Street, Windsor, informed them last week that they would have to move on from their premises by December 23.
"The irony of it, is that on the Tuesday we found out, it was our 30-year anniversary," Ms Peterson told the Gazette.
The team, made up entirely of volunteers, is appealing to the landlords of Windsor and Richmond to please get in touch if they have a property they can lease.
"If we found something this week we'd be able to move in in a couple of weeks," Ms Peterson said.
She said the not-for-profit organisation had a sterling track record as rent-paying tenants.
Ideally, they'd like to be close to either Windsor or Richmond train stations, making it easier for people who use their services to travel by train and either take a short walk or bike ride to use their facilities.
They would require a bathroom, a kitchen - which they would be prepared to renovate if need be - a laundry, and some spare rooms to use for storage, an office area and a dining room.
Hawkesbury Community Kitchen serves around 300 meals a week to less fortunate and down-on-their-luck people in the Hawkesbury.
They are open Monday to Friday for lunch and dinner, and Saturday and Sunday for lunch.
"The kitchen isn't just a place where people can have a meal, shower and do their washing but it's a place where people can come together and socialise and be a part of the community," said Ms Peterson.
"We're really good neighbours to have as we're open only for a few hours at lunch time and closed by 7.30pm [after dinner on weekdays].
"You're guaranteed income with us as tenants.
"We just really need somewhere because we are a community kitchen and we're about to lose our home."
