THE state government has released a draft plan, which could see a crossing of the Nepean River near Yarramundi built, and would link Bells Line of Road with the M7, and include digging underneath part of Kurrajong Heights.
On the other hand, the Outer Sydney Orbital road, or M9 Orbital, will not bisect Windsor Downs, as had originally been proposed.
On Monday, March 26, the state government released draft plans, showing four major road corridors, which could be preserved and implemented in conjunction with the Western Sydney City Deal.
The information is spelled out in a document released by Transport for NSW called ‘Bells Line of Road – Castlereagh Connection corridor identification’.
One of the draft corridors would, if built, link Bells Line of Road starting at Kurrajong Heights with the M7 near Colebee.
A section of tunnel would be dug underneath Kurrajong Heights, while part of Bells Line of Road would be realigned.
In the process, both the Grose River and Nepean River would need to be crossed near Yarramundi.
The road has been dubbed the Bells Line of Road – Castlereagh Connection. It would run roughly south from Kurrajong Heights, crossing the rivers, before turning east near Castlereagh and linking up with the M7.
Another road corridor, the Outer Sydney Orbital, could connect Maraylya with the Hume Highway. The draft plan said in the future, the road could be extended to connect with the Central Coast.
It was originally planned to go through the suburb of Windsor Downs, however, Member for Hawkesbury Dominic Perrottet said the road would absolutely not go through Windsor Downs now.
"I am pleased that a decision has been made which sees the M9 Orbital go through open spaces rather than the community of Windsor Downs,” Mr Perrottet said.
The state government is calling for community comment on the road corridors. You can make a submission by visiting transport.nsw.gov.au/corridors.
