Three Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo were spotted in Richmond as the birds begin to inhabit urban areas foraging for food.
The three were spotted in the carpark of the Richmond Club feasting on pine cone seeds with their distinctive shriek drawing attention from passers-by
Seemingly one would stay at the top of the tree as a sentinel while the other two would move around foraging and eating.
The Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoo is one of six species of cockatoo in Australia, found in central eastern Queensland stretching down to the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.
In recent years the species has been in rapid decline along the east coast because of native habitat clearance, with a loss of food supply and nest sites, the cockatoos are moving in around parks and golf courses foraging on pine cones, banksia seeds and native plants.
